Pole Position

A few months ago we got a notice from our local gas comany, Terasen, saying that our metre was in danger of being hit by a car. Until then I hadn't known that our gas metre had been playing in the streets. Okay, bad joke, sorry. Seriously though it had never occoured to me that we could hit it with the car but there was a sidewalk there before which came out when we put in the drain/weeping tile on that side of the house.

I was on my way outside after I put the baby (i should really stop calling him that since he's really a toddler now...) down for his nap when i looked out the window and saw a shiney Terasen truck pull up and three guys get out and start looking at the metre.

I grabbed the phone and the camera immediately and headed out to the front. One guy just stood there watching the other two while smoking a cigarette. A whole was dug, the pole in place and one bag of concrete was mixed in place. Not too exciting, I know. The coolest thing was was that the one guy put in the main gas line on our street way back in 1965!

What I want to know is, did they just show up and start digging? Did they ask you first? I'd be a bit upset if I came home and there was new concrete poured in my yard...

they did send us a notice in january or early february. it was just very strange looking out the window at the truck and all of a sudden they're getting out with shovels.

And we didn't complain, because we didn't know how big it was going to be. I was planning on putting in something similiar. They should have put the meter on the other side of the house, then it wouldn't have been a problem.
