Tile-tastic Pt. 2

Here's a pic of 2 of the tiles we're using in our downstairs bathroom. The floor tile is very close to the wall colour. The is also a 2x6 black edge tile, to go along the top, and a octagonal/diamond tile for the floor.

The first step was to lay everything out and do a dry fit. The shower is 32x54, kind of an odd size, but means no cutting with the 1x1 mosaic tiles.

The drain position is adjustable, so I just had to cut those tiles out. It adjusts for height too, what a great design.

I'm not the cleanest tile setter that's for sure. The drain was the hardest part, because I had to build it up so much, and then it was coming up between the tiles. You don't want that to happen, because you'll never get the dry thinset off. I tried using a 1/16" nailset to clean it out, I found a finishing nail works better though, since the gap was so thin.

You can see the extra thinset around the drain.

Here is the floor completed. I also extended the membrane along the wall, since we're going to tile behind the toilet, and we had extra, may as well make that waterproof as well.

I have to do more plumbing before I can get the floor tiles down, I bought an offset toilet flange, that moves it over 2", which means I have to chip up more concrete. Hopefully I won't need to use Steve's hammer drill anymore, I've bought him a few cases of beer as rent, I've had it since the summer though, feeling really bad about keeping it so long.

Good work... very jealous of the size of your new shower!

Looks great- it seems like it's coming together quickly. With the offset toilet flange, you still need to chip up more concrete? That's a bummer. I hope it's not too much! Good progress!

Looks good. If you don't want the mortar coming up between the cracks of the tile, use a trowel with wider notches. That one you have is too small so you can't adjust the tile much before the mortar starts coming up. Try 1/4" or 3/8" notched trowela and you can adjust the level a lot more.
