Basement Built-in

I finished putting together the bookcase in the basement. I built the centre section first, then placed it in the opening. We built walls within walls in the basement, so we have a lot of wall thickness to build in.

then put it in place, and held it in place with trim.

The trim used to be in our kitchen, I think it's mahogany. It's really hot working today, so I was glad to be working in the relatively cool basement. The centre shelves are held together with dowels, the outer shelves sit on brackets, that are hidden by the skirting at the front. We're thinking that books will go on the bottom, DVDs on the second shelf, and cds on the top shelf. It still needs to be sanded, and 4 coats of Waterlox. I don't think I've finished anything yet in the basement, there's a lot of stuff that's 90% or more finished, I guess that's the way things go. Looks really depressing on paper though. I haven't got concrete stuff yet, so the countertop is on hold. I found a place locally that carries everything, they have contractor hours, so I haven't been over there to pick everything up yet. Hopefully I'll be able to do that this week, if work isn't too busy. The store is open at 7 am, I'd have a hard time getting there that early though.

Started stripping the basement windows too, what would summer be without stripping? It looks like they have their original glazing putty, so I guess I have to do that too. Any suggestions of brands of glazing putty? I heard the newer type isn't as good.

What is the place locally that you found the concrete items? I am planning some concrete countertops for my place in New West and would rather buy locally if I could.

I haven't called to see if they have everything, they say they do though. I can't even find the colour or the fibres in the big box stores.

Thanks much for the info. I will definitely be giving them a call. I am planning on a white countertop with various sizes of green glass as the aggregate. Several admixtures as well to help with strength and waterproofness. (is that a word?) When I saw that you were doing up a concrete countertop as well, I was thrilled. I am really looking forward to seeing the results.
