Painting Siding

Side of house with part of stucco removed. This is last year, before we poured the floor in the basement, or got rid of the oil tank. It's also before we redid the handrail on the porch.

The back after putting on new siding, and redoing the window. The door is painted black now, and the trim is all painted.

A view of the side of the house with flashing and bottom trim installed. I think the door is where the fuse box, or an old meter was. There's only a sheet of cardboard in there when you open it now.

There were holes from the nails holding the lathe on for the stucco, and the tar paper, so there was a lot of fill work done. We still have a long way to go on the removal process. We're going to do the bottom first, it's all clapboard underneath. The top is all shingles, so some of those may have to be replaced, like where they cut holes to blow in insulation. We'll need scaffolding for the upper section, so we probably won't start that until at least next summer. I'm still stripping the paint off the windows, and reglazing some of the panes. I'm putting another coat of stain on the fence as well, the neighbours cat is inept at jumping the fence and leaves claw marks almost every time. He can't even jump a 4' fence. The front of the house has some really bad stone work that someone did. I know one side has clapboard behind it, I think the other side was removed though, since I can see at the corner where it meets the clapboard. The bottom trim is 2x10 pressure treated wood, so we're going to wait until next summer to paint it. I'll probably bleach it first, so it paints better. So that's what I did on my summer vacation this year. Probably be similiar next year. Hopefully we can manage a week off from the house as well though.

You probably won't see much progress for a while, we're going to finish up what we've started, then move back inside. Hopefully, we'll finish all the way around the bottom next year.
