Stucco Removal Pics

We've been busy removing the stucco from the back of the house. It's a little easier with the air chisel, it sure makes a lot of noise though, so I can't really do it in the after noon. The plan is to finish the band around the bottom of the house, one side is done, the back is mostly done, and half of another side is started. We'll wait for the fall to do the front, we have to move a lot of plants to get to the front. We have to take the stairs off to finish the back. We're building a deck in the back, so it's not a big deal. The top of the back will be easier to remove with the deck there. We going to need scaffolding for the rest of the house, probably next year. We've had rain all this week, so it's going to be a while before we resume the removal.

Wow, I'm surprised that the clapboards are so intact when the stucco has been removed. That is going to look so nice.

Yeah, they're in not bad condition. There's a few splits from the lathe being nailed on. They only used chicken wire for lathe on this side, so it was easier to remove. The siding is in as good or better condition than a lot of houses, since it's been covered for over 50 years. We'll see how the shingles are on the top, I think they have more of a tendency to split.

Original clapboards make the house look like it is suppose to. It's going to look great!

Great progress! I hadn't heard of an air chisel before- I wonder what it would do with the sprayed on cement paint on our porch...

The air chisel is like a mini version of the jack hammers they use to break up roads. I try not to touch the wood with it, since it damages it pretty bad. That cement paint sounds like a nightmare
