Playhouse roof

Saturday afternoon, after a few showers in the morning and early afternoon, we got a late start on the roof. I had some asphalt shingles left from the garage roof, so I bought one more bundle, which worked out almost perfect. My neighbour donated the tarpaper, since we only needed a 60 s.f. of the stuff. The roof went on quickly, I still remembered how to do it from doing the garage roof. The weather was almost perfect, once the rain passed. Deb cut some of the shingles for me, so I could stay on the roof. I think it took just under 3 hours. There's so much cutting, it takes almost as long as a larger roof.

Sunday, I built some stairs, I built one too many treads though, oh, well, it's kind of just buried, I can't decide whether to remove the bottom one. I'm sure it'll take a while to rot away. Most of the latex paint is stripped, and I build a door out of salvaged tongue and groove fir from the house. Some paint and trim work, and the house will be done. Too bad things didn't go this fast on the main house, although, then I'd need a new hobby.

It looks wonderful- the faces on the kids say it all! I think our houses will keep us busy for awhile. Once we're done, we can move on to furniture building. If we're lucky enough it would be great to have a piece of property somewhere where we could build a cabin...

I'm sure the house will at least slow down at some point. I want to start making some furniture, when the house is finished, or least mostly finished. By then, hopefully we'll have a lot of the tool necessary to make furniture.

Will it ever be over? I sort of doubt it. I think I've learned that fixing up an old house sort of sears something away in a person so that they are left an eternal putterer. I'm sure when our houses are all fixed up, we'll build furniture, fix up cabins, and take on any number of projects. I watch my grandfather, who is in his 80s now and still puttering.
