Living on the "Wet Coast" you'd think we'd be used to it by now. As of this morning, it has been now 22 consecutive days of rain... and we're not going to stop until at least Saturday and even then it's only a "chance of sunny periods".
There have been wind warnings for those on Vancouver Island and the North and Central Coasts and the Queen Charlotte Islands, and occasionally for us here in Vancouver too. Mind you, they're nothing like what Greg over at the Petch House was feeling a couple weeks ago- we even heard about their weather up here!
Way back in November we did get some snow... for about 2 days before it melted. And then we had this really big ridge of high pressure sitting over us for a long time making it beautiful and sunny every day and we were on record to set the lowest rainfall for December. Then the high pressure system moved on and brought what's called "The Pineapple Express" where warm winds from Hawaii dumped lots and lots of rain on us, melting most of the snow on the local mountains making their Christmas holidays not so jolly.
Now they're saying that our temperatures are way above normal for this time of year. Usually we sit at around 3 or 5 degrees celcius (37-41 fahrenheit) in January and we're on average at 10! Now, that 10 degrees is much warmer here in Vancouver than it is in say, Fargo ND... we've got the Pacific on our side keeping us warm.
I don't have the foggiest idea of why I'm writing about the weather. I suppose it's starting to get to me. The work in the basement is going so great... slow, but really great. With 22 days of rain, I'd be surprised if we were further along than we are (the mudd taking longer to dry)! The mudding has one or two more nights work before the first sanding and priming... then to scrape all that mudd off the floor! hahahaha!
On a positive note, my bulbs are starting to bloom! The daffodills and narcisus are almost to my knee, and the crocus, snowdrops, and hyaciths are just about ready to push those loverly heads out of the dirt and show us their wonderful colours! And my tulips are about 2" tall! It's amazing!!!
Rain rain go away, come again some other day!

I know what you mean about the weather. Our winter has been freakishly warm. A normal January in Arkansas is 40-50's (Fahrenheit), overcast, and rainy.
It was about 70 F for the high Sunday afternoon. Last night we slept with our windows open and the heat off. We're also 16 inches behind on rain for the year.
The weather has been great for working on the Queen, but it makes me nervous for the world to be this out of wack. Hell, I think our fruit trees are going to start blooming now.
It has just been a mess, hasn’t it. We finally got a few days to dry out and on Friday I raced home from work to mow the lawn which was about 6-inches high. Just as I was finish it started raining again. I hope this means we’ll have a dry spring, but I’m not holding my breath.
I agree that we've had enough rain. I should also be used to it, living in Seattle, but it is starting to get to me. The record for consecutive days with rain in Seattle is 68 or so & must be similar for Vanouver. I sure hope we don't get close to that! Nick tried using the fast drying drywall mud this time (you mix it yourself and can get it in different drying times). It does dry much quicker which made the bathroom go much faster- it might be worth a try.
Unbelievable that the garden is starting already!
